Contemplative Monk : Intentional Spirituality Transforms

Is Facebook Driving You Crazy?

Don’t let the political click bate on Facebook make you small-minded, no matter how bright you are.

Be your open minded, big hearted self!

Don’t let people’s anger and hate lock you up in your ‘reptilian’ brain. That’s no way to live.

Arguing convinces no one.

Know How Your Brain Works

Because of thousands of years of programming our survival, we are hardwired for fight and flight. Negatives stick in our memory like velcro. Fear narrows our focus to survive. It’s all about safety and security. It causes our awareness to shrink into our small mind. We can barely see with our diminishing normal mind. Our ‘reptilian’ brain searches out for information that will help us to survive and be secure. We see those who are not us and ours as a threat. On one side, our survival herd mentality makes us easy to control and manipulate. And once we see the other, it’s easy to objective them, in the name of safety and security. And once we’ve objectified people, we can rationalize all matters of evil against them. They are a threat.

So when we go back to normal, we wonder, ‘What was I thinking?’

In the 60’s we had a saying, “I may disagree with what you’re saying, but I will fight for your right to say it!”

Jesus put it this way: “Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you…”

Back to brain science: Positives, on the other hand, are like Teflon to our brain. They don’t stick. We almost immediately forget them. Unless we immediately take time to savour them. You’ve got to savour what you want to remember. It why spirituality is intentional and why we do ritual.

Being spiritual, big-hearted, and big-minded doesn’t just happen. We’ve got to be intentional to grow and live a full on life. We reap what we sow, OK? Sow the seeds of a  big-hearted and a big-minded life in everything you do.

Facebook like money, amplifies who you really are. So Remember, what comes around goes around. Be kind!
