Contemplative Monk : Intentional Spirituality Transforms

This Is My Father’s World

This Is God’s World

There is a wonderful old Hymn This Is My Father’s World:

This is my Father’s world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas–
His hand the wonders wrought.

This World Doesn’t Belong to Us

We are stewards of everything we’ve been given, everything we have, and everything we’ve become, who must give an account to God. This is God’s world, not ours. We don’t own it. We’re the rulers, the managers, and the gardeners of this world, but it isn’t ours.

God Declares The Earth Good

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and declared this world good. All creation was declared good by God.

We were created in God’s image and likeness, to rule the earth so that it might flourish as we flourish. Like Jesus parable of the Talents, we’ve been given the gift of the earth and God will settle accounts.

If there’s any mess on this earth, we’ve done it as a result of the Fall, but as Scripture says,

“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”

We Are The Children of God

In Christ, we are children of God. We are the ones to whom it has been given, and whose responsibility it is to straighten out the mess that is. All creation has been waiting for us.

The Heresy of American Rapture Theology

Christianity is not the great escape plan where we rape the earth, pile up our treasures, and expect God to get us outta here.

This Is All God’s Story

Our story is not about us, but about God. We become God’s own. Jesus came not as a king to be served, but as a servant to serve and so are we in Christ.

We Will Reap What We Sow

So remember, this is our Father’s world. It matters how we treat the earth, and how we treat each other.

God Is Not Mocked

We will reap what we sow.  And if we sow to the wind, we will reap from the whirlwind.

Are You Waking Up?

Are you living the awakened life of a child of God?

This is my Father’s world:
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.
