Contemplative Monk : Intentional Spirituality Transforms

The Three Out Breakings of God in Our Lives

The Three Relationships of Transformation

God is known in relationship and never apart from it.

I submit to you that there are three outbreaks in our spiritual life, three eternal dynamics that undo, deconstruct, and transform us. Three progressively interrelated deepenings of our relationship with God that unfold from the core of our being outward. They grow us from the bottom up, transforming our very being, presence, and character, even on a molecular level. And they work from the center of our being outward, in outbreaks of God.

They sing in our spirit, shine in our eyes, and dance in our hearts.

Reviving

The first outbreaking revives us from our dead and dying state, awakening us into an ever new and everliving life centered in Jesus, centered in us. It’s been called ‘the in Christ life’ or ‘the incarnational life’, born from Jesus invitation to abide in me (with me in you) for apart from me you can do nothing. Receiving Christ’s invitation to abide, we intentionally enter into this reviving and awakening us every single morning, into a new day, a new dawn, awakening into this eternal moment, this dwelling in Christ in the living present. Living awake and aware in God breaking out into and through our lives.

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul.*

Renewing

The second outbreaking is within the seed of the first, receiving Jesus and being sealed with the Holy Spirit. It is within this eternal oneness with God we are empowered to live this eternal abundantly overflowing life. Renewing happens as we intentionally pour ourselves out in the eternal dance with God and are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit pours into and through us what manifests in the loving fellowship in and among us as the body of Christ bearing heaven on earth…growing into and through our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, the fruit of the Spirit and the character of God.

Restoring

The third outbreaking is the divine creative process of connecting each and every disconnect, one by one, healing the flow of God in our hearts, in our lives, and in our relationships. Our restoration begins as we intentionally move into our rest in Christ finished work, and live our of our wholeness in Him. Restoring is centered in the Father centered in us, as we create with our creator and walk in the choreography of God. It is walking with God in the cool of the day. It is having the mind of Christ, of seeing with the eyes of God, hearing with the ears of Wisdom, our heart beating with the love of God.

Restored people restore people.

As St Teresa of Avila said so well:

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

Now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you and abide in you all forever.
